The 4-day workshops are divided into 2 classes:

CLASS A - recording -, and
CLASS B - mixing -

They usually take place over a long weekend from Friday morning until Monday evening, unless other arrangements are made.

CLASS A - Recording -

This workshop concentrates on all things recording and tracking. First we are checking out the room acoustics and find the best placement of the instrument to be recorded in the room. Acoustic treatments will be done to the room after the microphones are set up and we can listen through the control room speakers. We are going to do intensive shootouts to find the right microphone for the particular instrument to be recorded. Once we decide on a microphone for the task and it’s placement on the instrument, we compare different mic pres. We’ll explore outboard gear like equalizers and compressors suitable for the recording chain, practically anything to get a great sound on to the recorder.

You are welcome to bring your own gear or instruments if you like, but please let me know in advance if you are planning to do so. You can find the WireWorld microphone list HERE and the WireWorld equipment list can be found HERE.

The class A workshop is limited to an attendance of seven guests, so there is plenty of time to concentrate on the individual experience level of each guest. We need a minimum attendance of three guests to cover the studio cost. The hours are from 11:00AM to 7:00PM.

The price for a class A workshop is $1,750.00 per person not including hotel, travel or food.

CLASS B - Mixing -

This workshop concentrates on mixing. We will cover the use and routing of outboard effects, compressors, EQ, as well as automation, levels, panning, bussing, dynamic effects and different ways to approach a mix.

The class B workshops are limited to six attendees, with a minimum of two. The rate is $1,750.00 per person, including all materials needed for mixing and a CD of the final mixes, for every guest to take home.

Mixing hours are based on an “ear-fatigue” basis, but normally take place from 11:00AM to 7:00PM. All guests will be hands-on mixing during the basic mix stage and then work together on the final automated mix.

We can mix a previously recorded song or you can bring your own files to mix (one set of files per workshop, we can’t do multiple songs). Please contact me before bringing your own files. The format should be consolidated AES-31 (Broadcast wave) files.
